Businesses pay $21 per user per month for Microsoft 365 Copilot Business ($18 on promotion until 31 December 2026), on top of an eligible Microsoft 365 plan. “Copilot” isn’t one product with one price. Microsoft offers a free AI assistant, Copilot features bundled into Microsoft 365 subscriptions, and business licences that connect AI to your company’s emails, files and meetings. This guide covers what each option costs and what you get for the money. It also explains what Nigerian individuals and businesses should check before they buy.
All prices are Microsoft’s US reference prices in US dollars as of October 2026. Microsoft changes plans regularly, and we update this page when it does.

Is Microsoft Copilot free?
Yes. The Microsoft Copilot assistant is free on the web, in Windows and in the Copilot mobile apps. You don’t need a Microsoft 365 subscription to use it. If you sign in with a personal Microsoft account, you also get chat history and more interactions.
Free Copilot is a standalone chat assistant. It doesn’t put Copilot inside your desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook. It also can’t read your company’s files or emails, and IT has no admin controls over it.
What free Copilot includes
- AI chat for questions, explanations and research
- Help brainstorming, outlining, rewriting and summarising text
- Web-grounded answers with sources
- Image creation, within Microsoft’s usage limits
- Access in the browser, Windows and the Copilot apps
Free Copilot suits students, casual users and anyone who mainly needs a chatbot. Don’t paste confidential business information into a personal AI assistant.
Microsoft Copilot plans for individuals
For personal use, Copilot comes as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription. That means you pay for the Office apps, cloud storage and AI together.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | What you get |
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $9.99 | $99.99 | 1 person, desktop Office apps, 1 TB storage, Copilot in supported apps |
| Microsoft 365 Family | $12.99 | $129.99 | Up to 6 people, up to 6 TB total storage. Copilot benefits apply to the subscription owner |
| Microsoft 365 Premium | $19.99 | $199.99 | Everything in Personal/Family, higher Copilot usage limits and advanced AI features |
| Microsoft 365 Pro | $99.99 | Not offered | The highest Copilot usage limits for heavy individual users |
What happened to Copilot Pro?
Microsoft replaced Copilot Pro with Microsoft 365 Premium in October 2025. Premium costs $19.99/month and combines the Office apps with Copilot Pro’s advanced AI features and higher usage limits. If you see “Copilot Pro” in older articles, Premium is the plan to buy today.
Is a paid individual plan worth it?
If you only ask questions and draft text in a browser, free Copilot is probably enough. The case for a paid plan is Copilot inside your apps. A freelancer who writes client proposals in Word, builds budgets in Excel or creates pitch decks in PowerPoint will get much more value from Microsoft 365 Personal or Premium.
Microsoft 365 Copilot pricing for businesses
Business pricing works differently. Copilot is a per-user add-on to a Microsoft 365 business plan your company already pays for. There are three levels:
| Option | Price (US) | What you get |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat | Included at no extra cost | Secure, web-grounded AI chat for staff with work accounts, with IT controls. It does not use your company’s files and emails to train AI models. |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot Business | $21/user/month on annual billing. $18 promo until 31 Dec 2026. Monthly billing costs more (about $25.20) | For organisations with up to 300 users. Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, grounded in your company’s emails, files, chats and meetings. Requires Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard or Premium. |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot (Enterprise) | $30/user/month on annual billing | The same work-grounded Copilot for larger organisations on Microsoft 365 E3/E5 and similar plans. |
| Agents and Copilot Studio | Pay-as-you-go or capacity packs | Custom AI agents and automations. These are metered separately, so budget for them before you roll out widely. |
What businesses get by paying for Copilot
- Answers from your own data. Copilot can search and summarise the emails, documents and Teams chats each user already has permission to see.
- AI inside everyday apps. Staff can draft proposals in Word, analyse sales data in Excel, summarise long email threads in Outlook and recap Teams meetings.
- Enterprise security. Copilot respects your existing Microsoft 365 permissions, and your data isn’t used to train Microsoft’s AI models.
- Admin control. IT decides who gets licences and can monitor usage and adoption.
What Copilot really costs: a 10-user example
The Copilot price is only half the bill. You also need an eligible Microsoft 365 plan for every user. Here is the total for a 10-person business on Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot Business, using annual billing and US prices:
| Cost item | Per user/month | 10 users/month | 10 users/year |
| Microsoft 365 Business Standard | $14.00 | $140 | $1,680 |
| Copilot Business (standard price) | $21.00 | $210 | $2,520 |
| Total (standard price) | $35.00 | $350 | $4,200 |
| Total (with $18 Copilot promo) | $32.00 | $320 | $3,840 |
Prices exclude VAT. Naira totals depend on the exchange rate and billing terms at purchase. If your team already pays for Microsoft 365, you only add the Copilot line.
Hidden costs to check before you subscribe
- Base Microsoft 365 licence. Copilot Business requires Business Basic, Standard or Premium. Include that cost if you don’t already pay for it.
- Number of users. Licences are priced per user. Start by licensing the people who will use Copilot most.
- Billing commitment. Annual commitment is cheapest. Annual commitment paid monthly costs about 5% more, and month-to-month costs more still.
- Agents and automation. Copilot Studio agents and some advanced features are billed by usage.
- Exchange rate and VAT. US dollar prices are not Naira prices. Your invoice depends on the exchange rate, VAT and how you buy.
- Data readiness. Copilot can reach anything a user has access to. If file permissions are too open, sensitive documents can turn up in answers. Budget time to tidy up permissions before rollout.
- Training. Teams that are shown how to use Copilot well get far more value from it. Plan for at least a short onboarding session.
Buying Microsoft Copilot in Nigeria: why use a Microsoft partner?
You can buy some plans directly from Microsoft, but most Nigerian businesses get better value through an authorised Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner like Uplicom. Buying through us gives you:
- Local billing. Invoicing in Naira, with payment options that suit Nigerian businesses.
- The right licence first time. We review your current Microsoft 365 setup and recommend the most effective combination that delivers what you need.
- Copilot readiness assessment. We check your permissions, data and security settings so Copilot only shows people what they should see.
- Deployment and training. We set Copilot up, run pilot groups and train your staff to use it in their daily work.
- Ongoing local support. You deal with a local team that knows your environment, not an international helpdesk.
- One partner across vendors. We also supply Google Workspace, Adobe and other cloud solutions, so you can manage all your cloud subscriptions in one place.
Which Copilot plan should you choose?
Choose free Copilot if…
You mainly need a general AI assistant for questions, ideas and first drafts, and you don’t need it inside Office apps or connected to company data.
Choose Microsoft 365 Personal or Family if…
You want desktop Office apps, cloud storage and everyday Copilot features in one affordable subscription.
Choose Microsoft 365 Premium if…
You use AI heavily for personal or freelance work and keep hitting the usage limits on Personal. Premium is also the replacement for Copilot Pro.
Choose Copilot Business or Enterprise if…
Your team needs Copilot connected to company emails, files and meetings, with business-grade security and admin controls. Start with a pilot of 5–10 heavy users, measure the time saved, and expand once the results justify the cost. Uplicom can run the pilot with you.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Microsoft Copilot without Microsoft 365?
Yes. The free Copilot assistant works in your browser, in Windows and in the Copilot apps without a Microsoft 365 subscription. Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook needs a paid plan.
Is Copilot included with Microsoft 365?
Partly. Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium and Pro include Copilot features in the apps. Business users with work accounts get Copilot Chat at no extra cost. Full Copilot connected to company data requires the Copilot Business or Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on.
Is Copilot Pro still available?
No. Microsoft replaced Copilot Pro with Microsoft 365 Premium ($19.99/month) in October 2025. Premium includes Copilot Pro’s advanced AI features as well as the Office apps.
How much is Microsoft Copilot in Nigeria?
Microsoft prices Copilot in US dollars. What you pay in Naira depends on the exchange rate, VAT and your billing terms. As a guide, Copilot Business is $21 per user per month on annual billing. Contact Uplicom for a current Naira quote.
How do I buy Microsoft 365 Copilot for my business in Nigeria?
Buy through an authorised Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider partner like Uplicom. We confirm your eligibility, add Copilot licences to your existing Microsoft 365 tenant, and help with setup and training.
Does Copilot have unlimited usage?
No. Every plan has usage limits. Higher-tier plans such as Premium and Pro offer more, and custom agents are billed separately by usage.
Is free Copilot enough for a small business?
It covers general AI help such as drafting, brainstorming and research. If your team needs Copilot to work with company emails, files and meetings, you need a business licence.
Is my company data safe with Microsoft 365 Copilot?
Business Copilot respects your existing Microsoft 365 permissions and doesn’t use your data to train Microsoft’s models. Because it can surface anything a user has access to, review your file-sharing permissions before rollout.
Bottom line: is Microsoft Copilot worth paying for?
Free Copilot is a good everyday AI assistant. Individual Microsoft 365 plans add Copilot inside the Office apps for $9.99–$19.99 a month. For businesses, Copilot Business at $21 per user ($18 on promotion until 31 December 2026) is worth paying for once staff need AI grounded in company data.
